Harbord Public School is K – 6 State School located in Sydney and was one of the first schools to introduce the FlexiSchools system. Over recent years, Harbord has seen very strong growth in student numbers and because of this, needed to find an innovative way to cope with the growing demands on the volunteer-run canteen.

In 2008, Harbord brought in the online ordering system and started to see immediate results. “FlexiSchools has made the running of the canteen easier with less work for myself and the volunteers. And less money handling as well”, says Karen Bird the Canteen Manager. Prior to FlexiSchools, Karen was spending up to 90 minutes a day counting the bags and sorting change.

Initially, parents were tentative, but registrations quickly grew to over 400 and have increased each term. “Once the word got around people started to sign up and now love it”, says Karen.

As advice to other schools, Karen has this message: “I would say DO IT !!! Sign up you will love it. It is so easy and it will give you so much more time.”
